from cj (cjp@eng.umd.edu) --- After a number of frustrating attempts, I finally got the Bitsurfr Pro to work with 2B channels using multilink PPP on Interramp using the Microsoft Win95 winsock.dll and the Microsoft dial-up network dialer. In order to avoid clogging the newsgroups with an unnecessarily long posting, I will cover only those points that might give you a problemm. 1. Upgrade the firmware to version rev C. You can down load an archive with the image file and instructions on www.mot.com or from the Motorola BNN -- analog 508-337-7304 or ISDN 508-337-7304. Expand the archive and read the instructions contained in it. The image file is 4190_1C.SL. You can use the Hargrave terminal program included with Win95 to do the upload to the modem. 2. Also download the *.inf file archive to install the Bitsurfr Pro as a modem. After you expand the file, open the modems icon in the control panel folder and add the bitsurfer Pro. Then select the bitsurfer Pro line and open it. Then go Propeties/connection/advanced. Put in the init string AT&F&C1&D2\Q3%A2=95@B0=2@M2=P%A4=1. 3. Under the general tab put speed at 115200. 4. Then go to the dialup networks folder in My Computer and click the Make New Connection icon and fill out the necessary phone number. IMPORTANT: When you fill out the phone number enter it twice with at "&" and a "1" if necessary between the two numbers. Example: 703-904-9050&1703-904-9050. Do not but a "1" in front of the first number even it is necessary. Win95 will supply it. If you add a "1" then the dialer will dial 11703......, Of course, if the access number is local and needs no "1" first then don't add it. 4. The last *REALLY IMPORTANT TIP*. When you start to connect, the first screen that you get will be the one with the "connect" button on the bottom. Notice that the phone number does not have the & in it. You need to add it before you dial, because Win95 will strip it each time you dial. This could be considered a feature, if you like, because if you want only one channel to read the news and mail and save the cost of the second channel, then don't put in the "&" and you will get only one channel. If you put in the "&", you will get multilink PPP using two channels for web surfing and downloading files. I got this information from Motorola Tech Support. The technician that helped me was just great -- knowledgeable and patient. cj (cjp@eng.umd.edu)
