AO/DI ISDN - Virtual Permanent Connections without the Cost!
AO/DI: Always On/Dynamic ISDN:
AO/DI is a permanent connection to your ISP via the ISDN D-channel. Using
the X.25 protocol at roughly 9600bit/s worth of throughput, users can send
and receive low bandwidth traffic without ever having to bring up a
B-channel. When more bandwidth required (user settable), BACP protocol
negotiation from either the ISP or the end-user's ISDN equipment will bring
up either (1) or (2) additional B-channels as necessary.
What is needed to support AO/DI?
End-User:
A standard provisioned ISDN BRI line
X.25 over the D-channel extra provisioning
A ISDN T/A or router that supports AO/DI, BACP, and X.25
ISP:
One or more ISDN B-channel(s) on a BRI or PRI line provisioned
for X.25
NOTE: Most RBOCs don't allow provisioning X.25 on a
PRI's existing 64K D-channel so you'll need to chew up a
B-channel for this.
Upgraded code on your ISDN terminal server / router to support
BACP, AO/DI, and X.25 routing
This is a VERY new technology championed by VIA (Vendor's ISDN Association).
Though the standard and RFC is still being finalized, all of the necessary
RBOC infrastructure is available TODAY! For more info, check out:
