I wanted to send this to you all since you'll start hearing about this in
the future:

The new IBM-compatible motherboards starting to come out from various
manufactures are using the new Intel "430xx" chipset or formerly known as
the "Triton-II" chipset.  The motherboard mentioned below uses the 430VX
version which shares  the system memory with the video memory.  Though
this makes the boards cheaper, they will be slower.

Here is the quick breakdown of the Triton-II variations: (bare with me but
some of the docs I extracted this from was VERY vague)


-- Current Pentium Chipsets--

430FX:	- Original Triton-I chipset for Pentium Processors (low-end)
	- No support for SyncBurst L2 cache timings [2-1-1-1] only supports
	  pipeline burst [3-1-1-1])
	- 230MB of on-board RAM
	- 22MB/s EIDE support (mode 4)

--New Pentium chipsets--

430HX:	- For Pentium processors (High End)
	- *NO* support for the faster SyncBurst timmings only [3-1-1-1]
	- Concurrent PCI/ISA bus interaction (better performance)
	- Universial Serial Bus (USB) support (daisy-chain serial ports)
	- Error Correcting Memory (ECC) and Parity RAM support
	- PCI v2.1 support (optional 64-bit wide and 66Mhz timings)
	- Dual Pentium Processor support


430VX:	- For Pentium Processors (medium end)
	- full support for SyncBurst L2 cache timings [2-1-1-1] (faster
	  than pipeline burst)
	- Concurrent PCI/ISA bus interaction (better performance)
	- Universial Serial Bus (USB) support (daisy-chain serial ports)
	- Shared Memory Bus Architechure (SMBA) video/system memory (slower
	  performance / cheaper)
	- PCI v2.1 support (optional 64-bit wide and 66Mhz timings)


430MX:	- For portable Pentium Processors
	- full support for SyncBurst L2 cache (faster than pipeline burst)
	- Low power support


--New Pentium Pro Chipsets (to replace the current Intel Orion chipset--

450GX:	- For Pentium Pro Processors (servers)
	- Up to Quad-Pentium Pro processor(s) support
	- Error Correcting Memory (no more system crashing due to memory)
	- 4-way interleaved memory for higher memory throughput
	- 4GB of RAM
	- Multiple PCI busses


450KX:	- For Pentium Pro Processors (workstations)
	- 4-way interleaved memory for higher memory throughput
	- 512MB of RAM

the new asus mainboard {p/i-p55sp3av} introduced this morning which
contains the all in one solution that has imbedded sound,video and
controller capability is currently available. the sound chip is
manufactured by our new neighbors "e.s.s."and supports wavetable
upgradeability. the 64 bit video capacity is by "sis".

interestingly enough the video does not have it's own ram capacity.
video is obtained by sharing a portion of the systems resident ram.

e.g. if the computer system requires 16 mb of simm module ram, then
if you need 2mb of video capacity, your system in actuality
supports only 14mb of ram. the mainboard can be set up to accomodate
either 1 or 2 mb's of video output.

this board is positioned as a stand alone business solution whereby
intense graphics orientation is not required.
